Where this started
I started my insurance career taking reports of incidents. Injuries, near misses and, sometimes, fatalities. Fifteen years later I was head of strategy at a leading UK broker, and the pattern had never changed: everything we did happened after the harm. We got very good at documenting incidents. We were never in a position to prevent them.
The insight
Underwriting runs on proposal forms and site visits. Both are useful, but both show a controlled, on-paper snapshot of a risk on its best day. Meanwhile, the CCTV already running on those same sites captures what actually happens, every hour of every shift. No underwriter can watch thousands of hours of footage. AI can. Let it watch, feed hazards back to the people on site in time to act, and catch live events like a fire or a leak as they start rather than after they have spread. The information to prevent most incidents already exists. It just was not being looked at.
Finding the technology
I am not an AI developer, and Mitigate It does not build AI. Once I understood what was needed, I went looking for the people who had already proven it, and found them: specialists whose video analytics engine already runs on industrial sites internationally. They understood the insurance vision immediately. Our role is to package that proven engine for the UK insurance market, and to support insurers, brokers and policyholders end to end.
Win, win, win
The business only works because everyone in the chain is better off. The policyholder gets a safer, more productive site. The insurer funds technology that costs less than the claims it prevents. The broker gets a genuinely new product to offer. If a deal is not good for all three, we do not do it. And behind all of it sits the reason the company exists: every prevented incident is a worker going home safe at the end of the day.
